On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the Faculty of Environmental Protection hosted two distinguished guest lecturers as part of the course Wildlife Population Management.
Prof. Dr. Nikica Šprem from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zagreb, delivered a lecture entitled Hunting, Game Management, and Wildlife Protection in Croatia. In his presentation, he introduced the organisation of hunting in Croatia and highlighted key aspects of wildlife protection and the management of wildlife populations.
This was followed by a lecture by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hubert Potočnik from the Biotechnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana, entitled Ecological Characteristics and Challenges of Monitoring and Managing Wolf, Lynx, and Bear Populations in Slovenia. His lecture focused on the ecological characteristics of large carnivores and the challenges associated with their monitoring and management in Slovenia.
The visit of both guest lecturers made an important contribution to the internationalisation of the curriculum, as students gained valuable insight into comparative approaches to wildlife management in Slovenia and Croatia. The lectures further enriched the study process and highlighted the importance of connecting academia with current professional topics and examples of good practice from the wider European context.
