1st Transnational meeting Curiosoil Community of Practice: Awakening Soil Curiosity to Catalyse Soil Literacy

On Monday, 9. September 2024, was held the first transnational meeting of the members of the “Community of Practice (CoP)” within the framework of the CURIOSOIL project. Around 80 interested people attended the online event to learn more about soil education, innovation and the developments within this 4-year project. Among them were also representatives of the Faculty of Environmental Protection (FEP), the Slovenian project partner. This event launched a collaborative network to improve soil literacy across Europe, involving professionals, educators and other enthusiasts working to improve understanding of soil health and its sustainable use.

The CURIOSOIL CoP is a platform that brings together stakeholders from different fields and contributes to the development, testing and implementation of soil education initiatives. The CoP is led by ECOLISE, which coordinates members from different European countries and guides them towards common goals.

During the meeting, the leader Abdul Otman (ECOLISE) gave a brief presentation on the aim and main objectives of the CURIOSOIL project and the progress achieved in the project work.

Two emerging documents were also presented.

The first document, “Soil & Education Policies: Intelligence of the Crowd”, is intended for those actively involved in soils to record information on the national education system and the inclusion of soils content.

A sister project, ECHO, was also presented. The aim of the project is to involve citizens in soil protection and restoration by developing their competences and improving their knowledge of soils. Citizens will actively participate in data collection and promote sustainable soil management and behaviour change across the EU. You can join the project as an ECHO Ambassador.
