At the Faculty of Environmental Protection, we hosted students from the School Centre Novo mesto, Secondary school of Nursing and Chemistry, enrolled in the Pharmaceutical Technician programme, who participated in a science day entitled We Protect the Environment with Knowledge.
The event was designed to deepen understanding of contemporary environmental challenges and to introduce selected topics in environmental protection through the integration of theoretical foundations, research activities, and practical demonstrations. The students explored current issues such as soils, wildlife monitoring, microplastics, and environmental changes in the local environment, with particular emphasis on linking professional knowledge to concrete real-world examples.
At the Faculty, we regard such activities as an important component of cooperation between secondary and higher education. Direct engagement with research work and current environmental topics enables young people to better understand the complexity of environmental processes and highlights the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in addressing them.
At the same time, science days make a significant contribution to knowledge transfer, foster interest in research work, and support the development of environmental literacy among young people. We believe that such collaboration plays an important role in building the competencies needed to address the challenges of sustainable development.
