A new targeted research project

Members of the research team of the Faculty of Environmental Protection, together with colleagues from ZRC SAZU-Institute for Karst Research and the Faculty of Security Sciences, University of Maribor, will implement a targeted research project (CRP) entitled “Risk from environmental and natural disasters in the area of operations of the Slovenian Armed Forces”.

Military activity in peace time (military exercises, various trainings, etc.) has both direct and indirect impacts on the environment and on the population in the vicinity of training grounds. One of the most important impacts is the risk of environmental and natural disasters. In order to reduce the possibility of such events occurring in the Slovenian Armed Forces’ areas of operation, military activity will be reviewed, analysed and critically assessed in terms of its impact on the environment. Particular attention will be paid to areas where hazardous substances may be handled.

The project is funded by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia (MORS) and the Slovenian Agency for Scientific Research and Innovation (ARIS).
