Using camera traps (sensor-triggered cameras), which we installed in the Sinji Vrh hunting ground (Kočevje-Belokranjska hunting management district) within a framework of the international consortium ENETWILD-2, we took some interesting photos of bears. Representatives of our largest carnivore can also cause some inconvenience by breaking or moving cameras, which was also documented in the field by colleagues of the Faculty of Environmental Protection. Footage from the first location shows a young bear playing with the camera, during which the field of view was shifted, while at the second location we were greeted by a tree with clearly visible claw marks, on which the stolen camera trap was installed.
The determination of population densities of large mammal species using camera traps will also be discussed at the 14th European Vertebrate Management Conference (EVMC 2025), which will be organised in Slovenia next May.
