International Staff Exchange within the PLASTIX Project in the SAŠA Region

The Faculty of Environmental Protection and the SAŠA Development Agency recently welcomed partners from Barcelona as part of the international PLASTIX project, which addresses the challenges of plastics and promotes the development of a circular economy. The project enables knowledge exchange among partners, connects European regions, and encourages learning from innovative solutions and best practices.

On September 10 and 11, 2025, Maria Dolors Núñez Sanchez and Maite Ardevol Garcia from the Catalan public agency for business competitiveness ACCIÓ visited the SAŠA region. The first day of their visit focused on learning about successful practices in the region. Together with Slovenian partners, the guests visited Hisense Gorenje Europe, BSH Home Appliances Nazarje, and Plastika Skaza, where they were introduced to production processes, plastic management, and innovative sustainable solutions.

The second day continued in Ljubljana, where partners took part in the international conference Circular Economy Hotspot Slovenia 2025. The event showcased solutions that combine environmental responsibility, economic competitiveness, and improved quality of life. By hosting this conference, Slovenia positioned itself at the center of global discussions on the circular economy and confirmed that sustainable development is not just an ambition—it is the essential foundation of a resilient and competitive future.

The visit of the Spanish project partners also confirmed that the SAŠA region is recognized as an exemplary case of innovative practices in plastic management and circular economy. As Maria Dolors Núñez Sanchez highlighted:
“The company visits were truly inspiring and insightful. We had the opportunity to see significant progress in circular economy practices in the region. It was especially interesting to observe innovative approaches already being put into practice. The commitment and dedication of organizations and the wider community in Velenje to advancing the circular economy are truly remarkable.”

Through collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the promotion of sustainable solutions, the PLASTIX project and its European partners are building a future based on circular and responsible approaches. Sustainability is not only a goal—it is the foundation for the future we must start shaping today.
