Freshmans, welcome!

October is here and so is the new academic year. The start of October will certainly be especially memorable for new students. Transitions to new environments are never easy, so on the opening day we made special arrangements for the freshmen and sophomores to get familiar with the faculty and the faces they will meet during their studies in a pleasant, interesting and fun way.

The gathered students were welcomed by the Director of the Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gašper Gantar, and the Dean, Prof. Dr. Boštjan Pokorny, who invited them to take an active part in the many activities organised at the Faculty. The opportunities offered by studying at the FEP were also presented by the President of the Student Council, Katja Čeh. To make student life as colourful and varied as possible, Teodor Majcenovič from the Šaleška Student Club also encouraged the students to become active members.

The fresh students also listened to an introductory lecture by Assistant Professor Dr Samar Al Sayegh Petkovšek, which gave them an insight into how to properly prepare and edit written products.

After an introductory gathering in the central lecture hall of the Faculty and a snack, we walked to Velenje Castle. While enjoying the view, the senior lect. Klemen Kotnik gave the students some interesting information about the Šaleška Valley, its origin, development and environmental remediation.

We wish the students who have chosen this interesting and useful course every success. We believe that together we will write good stories. We are all aware that we can only protect the environment with knowledge.
