60 Years of the Fulbright Program in Slovenia – Dr. Irena Mrak Participates in the Anniversary Event

A ceremonial event marking the 60th anniversary of the Fulbright Program in Slovenia took place in Ljubljana on 29 January 2026. The event was co-organized by the American-Slovenian Educational Foundation in cooperation with the ZRC SAZU and the U.S. Embassy in Slovenia. For six decades, the program has enabled the exchange of students and researchers between Slovenia and the United States, contributing to the long-term development of scientific and educational cooperation.

The central panel featured Irena Mrak, a researcher and staff member of the Faculty of Environmental Protection, who was awarded a Fulbright scholarship in 2012. In her contribution, she highlighted the importance of international mobility for advancing research and knowledge in environmental protection, as well as the role of such programs in strengthening the international visibility of Slovenian research institutions.

The event underscored that the Fulbright Program represents not only an individual academic opportunity, but also a key mechanism for knowledge transfer, the linking of research environments, and sustained long-term cooperation between the two countries.
