In Timișoara on Plastics, Sustainability, and the Circular Economy

At the end of October, the first Learning, Teaching, and Training Activities (LTTA) event within the Erasmus+ project EDU4PlastiCircular was organized in Timișoara, Romania. The event focused on the exchange of knowledge and experiences related to integrating the principles of the circular economy, sustainable development, and awareness of plastics and microplastics into higher education.

The Faculty of Environmental Protection actively participated in the preparation of educational materials, developing a lesson titled “Plastics in Our Everyday Life: Why? Where? How?”, aimed at understanding the origin, use, and significance of plastics in modern society. The faculty also co-created a module entitled “Awareness of the Impact of Plastic Waste and Responsible Behaviour,” which explores the environmental and health impacts of plastic and microplastic particles and promotes sustainable behaviour.

The prepared topics were presented at the event by Assistant Katrin Školnik Škrabe, who also demonstrated practical activities and teaching approaches that can be used to effectively transfer knowledge about plastics and microplastics to secondary school and university students.

The event was also attended by Master’s student Nika Kotnik, who shared her experience:

“Participating in the EDU4PlastiCircular training in Timișoara was an exceptional opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences on sustainable approaches to addressing plastics and microplastics in education. I gained a great deal of new knowledge and insights, and the event inspired me to think about how I can personally contribute to raising awareness of the impact of plastics on the environment and our everyday lives.”
