As part of Slovenia’s Presidency of the Alpine Convention 2023-2024, Kranjska Gora is hosting two international events between 12 and 14 June 2024: the Alpine Biodiversity Conference and the Alpinum Forum 2024, both under the joint title Joint action for the Alps: conserve, connect and restore.
The international conference is organised by the Slovenian Presidency of the Alpine Convention and the International Scientific Committee on Research in the Alps (ISCAR).
The two events are aimed at discussing how a common approach in the Alps can address the global and EU biodiversity targets, the challenges we face in doing so, and the latest scientific knowledge on biodiversity and geodiversity in the Alps.
Faculty of Environmental Protection colleagues are also presenting and contributing to the conference.
Dr Peter Skoberne, Senior Lecturer, will present in the opening plenary session. The paper entitled Mountain pasturing and quality of water sources in the Kamniško-Savinjske Alps and findings will be presented by Natalija Špeh, PhD, and Anja Bubik, PhD, in the Water resources & Geodiversity group. Microplastics contamination in high mountain lakes – case of Triglav National Park in the Ecosystem services & connectivity group will also be presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irena Mrak, Dr. Andrej Kržan and Matej Kovač, who has also researched this issue in the framework of his Master’s thesis at FEP. |
The conclusions will be used to complement the short report on joint actions for biodiversity under the Alpine Convention with recommendations for future steps in this field.
