Publication in the journal Environmental Monitoring and Assessment

Assist. Prof. Dr. Samar Al Sayegh Petkovšek, Klemen Kotnik, Prof. Dr. Kristijan Breznik have published an original scientific paper entitled: »Assessment of impact of military activities on soil contamination with potentially toxic elements and organic pollutants: a case study for the Poček military training ground, Slovenia« in the prestigious international journal Environmental Monitoring and Assessment.

The article assess the impact of military activities on soil contamination in the Poček military training area. It was prepared as part of the research project “Risk Assessment due to environmental  and natural disasters in areas impacted by military activities in the Slovenian Army (V1-2372)”. The authors analyze the concentrations of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) and organic pollutants in soil samples collected between 2005 and 2024 from various training sites within the Poček military training area, and compare the results with those from other military areas as well as with Slovenian legislation.
