On Friday, 29 May 2026, the 10th Day for the Savinja took place at Vrbje Pond. The event is organised by the Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Nature Conservation, and this year it was prepared in cooperation with the Municipality of Žalec.
The event was attended by 380 pupils from three primary schools in the Municipality of Žalec. Through practical activities at various thematic workshops, they learned about the natural environment of the Savinja Valley and the importance of responsible attitudes towards nature.
Our faculty participated with a soil workshop prepared as part of the CURIOSOIL project. Pupils learned about the important ecosystem services provided by soils and took part in simple analyses of soil samples, such as measuring soil acidity and determining the soil colour code.
The event offered an opportunity to bring the importance of soils closer to young people and to connect knowledge, research, and nature conservation.
