Its co-authors include\u00a0 <strong>Konstantinos Papakostas, Ph.D<\/strong>, a researcher at the Faculty of Environmental Protection. The study was conducted with researchers from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agr.unizg.hr\/\">University of Zagreb Faculty of Agriculture<\/a> under the leadership of<strong> professor Nikica \u0160prem,Ph.D, Full Prof.\u00a0<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Using GPS telemetry, the researchers monitored 16 farmed red deer (<em>Cervus elaphus<\/em>) released directly into the wild in central Croatia without a prior acclimatisation period. They analysed their survival, causes of mortality, movements and home-range establishment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Post-release mortality reached 69 per cent, with poaching identified as the leading cause and males particularly affected.
