{"id":27864,"date":"2026-02-25T12:14:54","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T11:14:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fvo.si\/objava-v-reviji-european-journal-of-wildlife-research-prva-vseevropska-dolocitev-stevilcnosti-divjega-prasica\/"},"modified":"2026-02-25T12:39:15","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T11:39:15","slug":"objava-v-reviji-european-journal-of-wildlife-research-prva-vseevropska-dolocitev-stevilcnosti-divjega-prasica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fvo.si\/en\/objava-v-reviji-european-journal-of-wildlife-research-prva-vseevropska-dolocitev-stevilcnosti-divjega-prasica\/","title":{"rendered":"Publication in the European Journal of Wildlife Research: First Pan-European Estimate of Wild Boar Abundance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Colleagues and lecturers at the Faculty of Environmental Protection, Prof. Elena Bu\u017ean, PhD, and Prof. Bo\u0161tjan Pokorny, PhD, together with co-authors, have published a scientific paper in the journal <em>European Journal of Wildlife Research<\/em> titled <strong>\u201cMapping wild boar density across Europe: combining spatial models and density estimates.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The study provides the first scientifically supported estimate of wild boar abundance and population densities across European countries for the period <strong>before the emergence of African swine fever (ASF)<\/strong>. The authors combined data on wild boar observations and hunting bags and calibrated them using statistical models with robust density estimates from <strong>77 sites across Europe<\/strong>, where camera-trap research is conducted within the European projects <strong>European Observatory of Wildlife<\/strong> and <strong>Biodiversa+ Big_Picture<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The results indicate that, in Europe, <strong>between 13.5 and 19.6 million wild boar<\/strong> lived during the <strong>summer\u2013autumn period<\/strong> (i.e., after farrowing but before the main hunting season).
